Jason M. Nemes

Jason Nemes represents businesses and individuals in a variety of litigation and regulatory matters.  Mr. Nemes has represented businesses in everything from complex bet-the-company litigation to simple license applications.  From healthcare and employment law to breach of contract suits, he has a vast array of trial experience in courts all across Kentucky.  Mr. Nemes also regularly appears before Kentucky administrative bodies representing companies seeking certificates of need in the Cabinet for Health and Family Services, judges before the Judicial Conduct Commission, attorneys before the Kentucky Bar Association, physicians before the Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure, nurses before the Kentucky Board of Nursing and retail stores before the Alcohol Beverage Control Board, among others. 

Mr. Nemes also has substantial election law experience representing boards of elections, candidates, voters, and political action committees in the Kentucky Supreme Court, federal and state courts of appeals, federal and state trial courts, and the Registry of Election Finance. 

Mr. Nemes has received numerous accolades.  He has been recognized as a Super Lawyers Rising Star in 2013 and 2014 and included in the Kentucky Super Lawyers list in the field of Business Litigation since 2015.  Prior to joining Commonwealth Counsel Group, Mr. Nemes practiced law in a large, multi-state law firm.

In addition to practicing law, Mr. Nemes represents eastern Jefferson County, south Oldham County and northwest Shelby County, in the Kentucky House of Representatives.  In that capacity, Jason is in House leadership being elected by his colleagues to be the majority party’s Whip.  He also serves on the Judiciary Committee, the Rules Committee and on the Committee on Committees.  

Mr. Nemes has served as an adjunct professor teaching courses in Constitutional Practice at the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law.  He also regularly presents at the Kentucky Bar Association Convention, where, among other things, he leads an annual discussion about important cases from Kentucky’s appellate courts. 

Prior to entering private practice, Mr. Nemes served as the Chief of Staff to the Office of the Kentucky Supreme Court Chief Justice, Joseph E. Lambert and as the Director of the Administrative Office of the Courts, which is the highest unelected position in the Kentucky Court of Justice.  In those positions, he oversaw a $350 million budget and managed over 3,000 employees in all 120 Kentucky counties.

In law school Mr. Nemes graduated with high honors and participated as a member of the University of Louisville Law Review and the coveted National Moot Court Team.  Prior to law school he attended Western Kentucky University, where he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity and participated in numerous social and academic student organizations.  Mr. Nemes and his wife Leslie have been married for over twenty years and have three sons, Sam, Will and Daniel.
